A supporter’s action through the National Jewish Assembly and We Believe in Israel campaign has helped secure a clear answer from the British Government: the UK will not attend anniversary events connected with the Durban Conference.
Following our email campaign, a supporter contacted Peter Kyle MP and asked him to raise the issue with the Government. Peter Kyle subsequently submitted a written parliamentary question asking the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to clarify its policy on participation in events connected with the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.
In its answer on 18 September 2026, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to combating racism, racial discrimination, antisemitism, xenophobia and related intolerance. It also confirmed that, because of historic concerns about antisemitism at the 2001 Durban Conference, its longstanding position is that it “will not attend anniversary events connected with the Conference.”
This is an important campaign result. It demonstrates what can happen when supporters take practical action, contact their representatives and ensure that concerns about antisemitism are heard at the highest levels of Government.
